Lutein and zeaxanthin are carotenoids, which are naturally occurring pigments in plants that are responsible for the yellow, orange, and red colors of many fruits and vegetables. Instead, they are known for their role in eye health and are found in high concentrations in the macula (macular), the small area of the retina responsible for central vision.
