Maca is a root vegetable native to the Peruvian Andes mountains. It is valued for its nutritional richness, being a source of several fibres and proteins, and containing very little salt. Maca is also ideal for those following a raw food diet. In the Juníni region of Peru, maca is eaten in many forms: fresh with meat, cooked on hot stones, dried and boiled with milk, fermented into a traditional drink called “maca chica” or ground into flour for use in baked goods.
Maca powder is derived from the dried roots of the plant, which has been consumed as both food and medicine for over two millennia. It is a hardy plant that grows at altitudes of over 3,500 metres in rocky and barren soils and can tolerate temperatures as low as –10°C. It has been used in food and drink for centuries. It is the only edible plant that can survive in such extreme conditions. Maca is the main source of energy for the Andean locals.

Maca (Peruvian cress, Lepidium meyenii) root is known as an energy booster, stamina enhancer and a potent aphrodisiac.
It contains vitamin C, B vitamins and essential minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium. Maca is also a complete source of protein, fibre and healthy carbohydrates for sustained energy. In addition, it is full of antioxidants, polyphenols and glucosinolates that support overall health.

HOW TO USE: Add 1 teaspoon (3.5 g) of powder to juice, milk, muesli, yoghurt or smoothie.
